Canada started the Express Entry system in 2015 to process applications for permanent residence for SKILLED workers who want to live permanently in Canada. 9 Simple Steps to become a Permanent Resident using Express Entry

This is how to become a Permanent Resident in Canada in 9 simple steps using the Express Entry system.

1. Check which of the subcategories of the Express Entry system you are eligible for here

2. Write a language test (IELTS/CELPIP in English or TEF/TCF in French) and target for a Canadian Language Benchmark of 9 or higher. Details are available here.

3.Use any of the organizations listed here to evaluate your foreign degree.
In other to get a point equivalent to a master’s degree in the Express Entry system you must have one of the professional degrees listed below, and also ensure your degree assessment is done by a designated organization for the profession.

When you are calculating your score under Express Entry, a degree which is considered to be a professional degree needed to practice in a licensed profession is given the same amount of points a a Master degree.

  • Dentistry
  • Optometry
  • Law

4. After completing steps 2 and 3 above, you can calculate your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score here.

5. Then create your Express Entry profile by clicking here.

6. Express Entry draws typically take place every two weeks; if you qualify, you will be given the opportunity to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

8.  If everything goes well and the background, security, and criminality checks are approved by IRCC as satisfactory, Expect your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) in 1-6 months.
